While SCI affects persons of all ages, much of the published evidence, on-going research and networks focus on SCI in adults. As a result, there is not a lot of available evidence-based research to help determine the best treatments options for children with SCI.
Paralysis in Children: an Overview of Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury
RHI is currently supporting the development and validation of pediatric modifications to the international SCI dataset, which will help researchers collect standardized research data on children with SCI. In addition, and through the support of a private donor and the Rick Hansen Foundation, RHI is undertaking a new initiative entitled 'Paralysis in Children: an Overview of Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury'. The objective of this initiative is to conduct an environmental scan to gain a better understanding of the pediatric SCI community, current pediatric SCI research, and knowledge gaps and opportunities for future research in Canada.
Deadline to provide input is August 31, 2018
Output
The output of this initiative will be a report that summarizes who and/or what centres are involved in pediatric research, where they are located, what they are working on, and identify areas where further knowledge, evidence, or research is needed. The report will be distributed to the pediatric SCI community to inform future planning and prioritization. The more comprehensive the information collected, the more useful the report will be.
Participate in this important initiative
We are seeking individuals who work with the pediatric SCI population in Canada, whether as a researcher or health care professional to participate in a 15-30 minute teleconference or fill out a questionnaire about your role or experiences in pediatric SCI. Your input will help provide an accurate picture of the current landscape of pediatric SCI research and care in Canada.
