A new spinal cord injury endowment fund has been set up at the Vancouver Foundation to support the Rick Hansen Institute's mission to advance research and implement best practices that will improve the quality of life for individuals who live with spinal cord injury.
The SCI Fund will "support the development and implementation of innovative new therapies for spinal cord injuries," says RHI's Dr. Pamela Berg.
The Rick Hansen Institute (RHI) and its national network of researchers and healthcare professionals work to ensure that the 86,000 Canadians living with spinal cord injury today, and the more than 4,300 Canadians who sustain new injuries each year, get the best chance possible to live life to its fullest.
The Vancouver Foundation connects the generosity of donors with the energy, ideas, and time of people in the community. Since 1943, the Vancouver Foundation has created 1,800 endowments funds, distributing more than $1 billion to charities. By partnering with the Vancouver Foundation through the Spinal Cord Injury Fund, it provides the gift of steady income in support of RHI's mission and supporting long-term sustainability for the organization in addition to its existing fundraising initiatives.

The Spinal Cord Injury Fund is part of RHI's broader strategy to support RHI collaborations with researchers and healthcare professionals across the country, ensuring that Canadians with spinal cord injury receive the best care and outcomes possible. RHI's initial contribution to the fund is a gift of $100,000.
