Last fall, RHI teamed up with the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine program to provide a postdoctoral fellowship to a researcher primarily focused on knowledge transfer in SCI. Please welcome Dr. Justine Baron and Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw to RHI's network.
Dr. Justine Baron received her MSc in Health Promotion and Psychology at the University of Nottingham, and her PhD in Health Psychology at University College London, both in the United Kingdom. She moved to Canada to embark on a postdoctoral fellowship in the Clinical Epidemiology Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Her training so far covers a spectrum of health research in the fields of chronic illness self-management and behavior change, from telehealth for diabetes in graduate and doctoral studies, to treatment adherence in cystic fibrosis, smoking cessation in people with heart disease, patient-physician concordance, weight reduction in obese asthmatics, and barriers/facilitators to temperature management during surgery, as a postdoctoral fellow. In this second postdoctoral fellowship in knowledge translation funded by the Rick Hansen Institute, she is looking forward to helping advance research to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injuries.
Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw, who will be Dr. Baron's supervisor during this postdoctoral fellowship, is a leading knowledge translation expert in Canada. Currently, Dr. Grimshaw is a Senior Scientist, Clinical Epidemiology Program, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine, University of Ottawa and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Health Knowledge Transfer and Uptake. He is Director of Cochrane Canada and previous Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care group. He was also the Principal Investigator of Knowledge Translation Canada (KT CANADA), a CIHR and CFI-funded interdisciplinary network of over 50 knowledge translation researchers from six academic health science centres in three provinces. Dr. Grimshaw has over 450 peer-reviewed publications.
RHI is excited to welcome Drs. Baron and Grimshaw to RHI's network and look forward to working together to determine the scope of activities to be undertaken in this postdoctoral fellowship. Stay tuned!
