WHAT: Community Open House to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre

Come join the researchers, staff and clinicians at the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre -- home to ICORD (International Collaboration On Repair Discoveries), the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Spine Centre, and the Rick Hansen Institute-- as they celebrate their 5th anniversary of operation in the state-of-the art facility with presentations, guided tours and a panel discussion on the past, present and future of spinal cord injury research and care.
As part of the 5th anniversary celebration, a new Physical Activity Research Centre (PARC) for people with spinal cord injuries is officially opening within the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre. Funded by Government and private donors, PARC is a unique initiative of researchers at ICORD, a spinal cord injury research centre at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. The special event will also include the opening of new physical activity centre for people with spinal cord injuries.

The Blusson Spinal Cord Centre opened in November 2008, and is now the world’s largest, most advanced and most comprehensive facility devoted to SCI research and patient care. Standing six stories tall and boasting over 11,000 square metres of labs, treatment facilities, and more, the facility brings together over 300 SCI researchers and practitioners from the sciences, medicine, surgery, rehabilitation, engineering, and humanities. It houses ICORD, the Brenda and David McLean Integrated Spine Clinic (administered by Vancouver Coastal Health), as well as the Rick Hansen Institute.
