Project Title: Validation of the International Autonomic Standards for Evaluation of Individuals with Chronic Spinal Cord Injury

This study will include individuals with a chronic SCI and will be conducted in an outpatient setting. This multicenter study will be conducted in centres that are familiar with or are using the IAS in clinical practice.

Project Title: Neil Squire Society Computer Comfort Program

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to support the Computer Comfort program, operated by the Neil Squire Society, to implement the Solutions Model in BC and promote active living among BC residents with spinal cord Injuries. This program is a basic computer familiarization program offered to clients, free of charge -- designed for people who have mobility impairments (including SCI), and who have a desire to learn to use a computer to achieve individual goals which often include increased community participation, education, and employment. The Computer Comfort program provides one-on-one instruction, recommendations for adaptive equipment, and refurbished equipment to be used in the client's home.

 

Project Title: Program Support for BC Wheelchair Sports Association (BCWSA)

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to support BCWSA programs. BCWSA is focused on the following goals, with the ultimate outcome being increased participation of individuals with SCI in sport and recreation in the province of BC: To enhance retention strategies; To deliver multi-level programming based on the Long-Term Athlete Development model; To engage communities; To provide regional development initiatives;  To engage in leadership development of officials, classifiers, volunteers and administrators; To offer an equipment program; To develop and enhance partnerships to achieve BCWSA goals; To increase awareness strategies; To engage athletes as role models. Through strategic engagement, innovative communication, and collaboration, this funding opportunity will assist BCWSA in accelerating its ability to achieve these goals.  The primary focus for the use of these funds will be to build capacity in a variety of programs and services focusing on participation, enhanced regional communication strategies and leadership development.

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient, The Sam Sullivan Disability Foundation, exclusively to support and encourage people with spinal cord injuries to live active, healthy lives and to participate in community life to the fullest extent possible. The foundation pursues three primary approaches to realize this mission: Promote and engage people in activities that encourage a healthy, active lifestyle, develop selfconfidence, reduce isolation and increase their participation in the life of the community by delivering programs covering a variety of areas of interest; Provide custom assistive devices that help to overcome physical obstacles, reduce health complications, create greater independence and enable people to undertake activities that might not otherwise be possible; Engage community partners to help people connect with the programs and services available to them and pursue their personal goals for employment, volunteerism and community involvement; Funds will be used to support 6 charities associated with SSDF - Tetra Society, Disabled Sailing Association of BC, BC Mobility Opportunities Society, Vancouver Adapted Music Society, Disabled Independent Gardeners Association, and ConecTra Society.

 

Project Title: Canada Research Chair in Rehabilitation Engineering Design

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to support activities at the BCIT Laboratory of the Canada Research Chair in Rehabilitation Engineering Design, specifically regarding the research, development and application of technology for problems associated with spinal cord injury. The aim of the Lab is to create products that fulfill both the role played by assistive technology as well as that of rehabilitative or therapeutic technology. The ultimate goal is to support improved health care outcomes, reduced long-term costs, and improved quality of life for those living with SCI.

 

Project Title: Bladder Self Management Pilot Project

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to determine whether home-based monitoring via telehealth decreases: the incidence of urinary tract infections (UTIs), frequency of autonomic dysreflexia, number of ER/physician visits relating to UTI, and healthcare costs in the spinal cord injured population. Patient satisfaction with home-based monitoring via telehealth will also be determined.

 

Project Title: Program Support for Spinal Cord Injury British Columbia (SCI BC)

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to enhance program delivery by SCI-BC.  Specifically, funds will be used for (1) leadership, coordination and evaluation of SCI-BC activities and partnerships within the BC SCICN Network, and (2) ongoing development and implantation of communication and collaboration platforms, including social media and Spin magazine.

Project Title: National Sexual and Reproductive Health Meeting

Purpose:  The Grant is to be used by the Grant Recipient exclusively to bring together participants (experts identified through the RHI Rehabilitation Evironmental Scan and within the reproductive health and SCI practice community) to come to Vancouver for a one day facilitated meeting. The overarching goal of this meeting is to establish priorities in the areas of knowledge generation, clinical application and policy change. Bringing together stakeholders from the community, clinical, and research areas will permit a comprehensive, national overview of the current situation in sexual and reproductive care for persons with SCI, to identify existing resources, and where gaps may exist.

 

Project Title: Program Support for BC Wheelchair Basketball Society Program
